Blessings of Abraham promised those entering celestial marriage covenant

In the 132nd section, the Lord reveals to the Prophet Joseph Smith that the blessings promised to Abraham would be available to all, contingent upon entering into the law of celestial marriage and being true to the conditions of that covenant. (See verses 29-33.)

Celestial marriage is the covenant of exaltation, and one of its blessings is that of eternal increase: not only posterity, but increased knowledge and wisdom. (Hugh B. Brown, Continuing the Quest.)The requirement for obtaining access to all the blessings of Abraham was specifically declared by the Lord in verses 32 and 33:

Go ye, therefore, and do the works of Abraham; enter ye into my law and ye shall be saved.

But if ye enter not into my law ye cannot receive the promise of my Father, which he made unto Abraham.

In an article in the June 1975 Ensign, President Spencer W. Kimball discussed some of the major works of Abraham that all need to emulate to obtain these blessings. Some of these works included:

Following Jesus Christ.

Seeking the priesthood and priesthood blessings.

Promptly obeying.

Presiding over his family in righteousness.

Teaching his family the gospel by example and precept.

Giving missionary service.

Acting as a peacemaker.

Possessing integrity - keeping covenants at all costs.

Being honest with others.

Paying a full tithe - putting God first.

Exercising faith.

Brigham Young taught that children who are born in the covenant - born to parents sealed in the temple - automatically receive these same blessings, if they, too, fulfill the above conditions.

"When a man and woman have received their endowments and sealings, and then had children born to them afterwards, those children are legal heirs to the Kingdom and to all its blessings and promises. . . " (Discourses of Brigham Young, p.196)
